The trip of the students from IES Monte Miravete (3º ESO) to the University Miguel Hernández of Orihuela – Learning about Food Quality.

This is the report of the day written by José Peñarrubia Larrosa, a 15 y old student from IES Monte Miravete, (Murcia, Spain).

On October 6, 2023, the third-year students of IES Monte Miravete had a day of learning at the University Miguel Hernández of Orihuela, Spain. During this educational visit, the students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of healthy cooking, the quality control that food undergoes before reaching our homes and explored various aspects related to nutrition.

During the workshops, students were involved in the preparation of a healthy pizza with whole-grain dough that is more filling than regular dough, mozzarella cheese that has less fat than other types of cheese, and low salt diced ham. This allowed students to create a pizza that is healthier for you.

Furthermore, the students were engaged in the quality control process of olives, learning about 13 different varieties of olives and being taught to identify and appreciate the differences between them in terms of flavor, texture, size, and more.

To be honest, it was a very enjoyable excursion, and the Polytechnic School of Orihuela made it a great day for us !!!

The day continued with a lesson on the importance of carefully choosing juices and nectars. We analyzed the differences between natural juice, supermarket juice, and nectar, identifying their differences in terms of sugar content and nutrients.

We concluded the day at a stand dedicated to tomatoes, where we could explore various tomato varieties and taste different types of tomatoes.
