The IES Monte Miravete is a public educational high school that was opened in 1998. The school is located in the district of Torreagüera, on the right bank of the Segura River, at the foot of Mount Miravete, which is about 7 KM from Murcia.

Based on respect for rights and freedoms, our goal is to achieve quality teaching in freedom, capable of responding to the training needs of students, contributing to the development of a comprehensive education, as well as promoting the following values:

• The transmission and implementation of values that favour personal freedom, responsibility, democratic citizenship, solidarity, tolerance, equality, respect and justice and help to overcome any type of discrimination.
• The initiative, the individual effort of the students, their motivation to learn and the development of their personal autonomy, their self-esteem and their critical spirit.
• Education in tolerance, solidarity and cooperation as necessary tools for the prevention of conflicts and their peaceful resolution, as well as non-violence in all areas of personal, family and social life.
• The development of equal rights and opportunities and the promotion of effective equality between men and women, without distinction between races, cultures and religions.
• The habits and attitudes of respect towards our own body and the cultural, natural and scientific-technological heritage, promoting its knowledge, care and conservation.

At the IES «Monte Miravete» we work so that our students can achieve their educational goals from a triple perspective. In the first place, the communication of civilization, emphasizing the knowledge and understanding of the different cultural manifestations from the European, Spanish, Murcian and local perspective. Secondly, to enable them to access university or other studies or to facilitate their incorporation into the labour market. Finally, prepare them to respond to the demands of the technified, multicultural and multilingual society of Europe in the 21st century.

In accordance with these purposes, the IES «Monte Miravete» is oriented to the achievement of the following educational goals:

• The full development of the personality of the students in all areas: personal, family, social, intellectual and professional.
• The acquisition of intellectual habits and work techniques, of scientific, technical, humanistic, historical and artistic knowledge, as well as the development of healthy habits, physical exercise and sports.
• The development of full linguistic competence through the Spanish language and the different scientific, technological, journalistic languages…
• The acquisition of knowledge of Murcian, Spanish and European cultures that enables students to integrate as full citizens, in our Autonomous Community,in Spain and in the European Union.
• The formation of cognitive structures that allow intellectual autonomy in foreign languages developed by the Spanish-English bilingual program together with the study of a second foreign language.
• Preparation for the exercise of citizenship and for active participation in economic, social and cultural life, with a critical and responsible attitude and with the ability to adapt to the changing situations of the society.
• The development of students’ ability to regulate their own learning, rely on their skills and knowledge, as well as to develop creativity, personal initiative and entrepreneurship.
• The learning of new information and communication technologies in a way that opens students to the enormous possibilities of the modern technological society in which they have to live.
